Asking CPC to Rectify Error in Interest u/s 234A , 234B or 234C

 
It may just happen that when you received the intimation from CPC , Banglore, you find that the interest charged u/s 234A or 234B or 234 C is either charged in excess or charged even though such interest should not be charged. Fortunately , CPC Banglore recognizes that such error may arise because of certain reasons , and therefore , it has suggested ways for tax payers to file rectification of error in charging interest u/s 234A , 234B or 234C. Here are three circumstances in which you can file rectification petition :
 
Interest under Section 234A has been charged even though Return was Filed within Due Date.
CPC desires that first one should verify the Due Date and Date of Filing of the Return in the latest XML.
1. If the Due Date / Date of Filing of the Return Original / Revised return is incorrect, then select “Tax Payer correcting the Data in Rectification”
2. then correct Due Date / Date of Filing in the new XML and ensure there are no other issues in the Order Processed by CPC.
 
Interest under Section 234B has been levied even though 90% of Taxes have been paid .
In this case, first verify if there is any mismatch in the Tax Credits in the Order Processed by CPC and also ensure the correctness of data in Schedule TDS, TCS and IT.
1. If  date is correct in schedule TDS,TCS & IT, verify the Credits in 26AS and OLTAS and
2. then select User Type “No further Data Correction is required, Reprocess the case”
3. and then select “Tax Credit Mismatch”
4. and then Submit.
 
In case if the details entered by you is incorrect,
1. then select User Type “Tax Payer correcting the Data in Tax Credit ONLY”
2. then enter details as per 26A / OLTAS and then submit.
 
Interest Under Section 234C has been levied in the Order Processed by CPC, even though Advance Tax was paid correctly.
1. First verify whether the Prepaid Taxes are paid within Due Date.
2. If Yes, select user Type “No Further Data Correction is required, Reprocess the case”
3. and then Submit.
